Thameena is a Social Worker who provides psychotherapy to adults experiencing challenging and painful life experiences. If you are considering therapy, you have already started down your path to self discovery. While it can be challenging at times, Thameena provides a safe and non-judgmental space, that fosters empathy, validation, and empowerment.

Thameena is here to listen and help you reach your own life goals. She has worked with clients with various concerns such as; anxiety, depression, stress/burnout, trauma, sexual violence, abuse, grief and loss, shame, relationships, life balance, school, post immigration issues, cultural and religion challenges, addictive behaviors and more. She strives to build a strong therapeutic relationship with you, by being present and meeting you exactly where you are. Thameena is very passionate about therapy and finds it a privilege to be part of your journey. 

Thameena completed her Masters of Social Work from Carleton University. She also holds an Honours Bachelor of Sexuality, Marriage and Family Studies from the University of Waterloo, specializing in Women Studies. 

Her practice is rooted in the foundation of collaboration and working alongside you. You are the expert of your own life and Thameena is here to understand your experiences and support you in making meaningful and lasting changes.

Her philosophy is, you have everything to gain by believing in yourself. Mental health, trauma, grief and painful feelings can leave us all feeling very stuck and lost in our own lives. By engaging in your curiosity, together you can build hope and resiliency to create a healthy relationship with yourself that you can love and grow from. As you heal, you will begin to see just how much you are capable of. 

Thameena works within a feminist, anti oppressive, sex positive, inclusive and holistic framework. Her approach psychotherapy from several modalities including; trauma informed, mindfulness practices, cognitive behavioral therapy, strength based, narrative therapy, solution focused therapy, grief recovery, and wellness. You will also find plenty of humor with her. Thameena believes it is good to laugh even when we are struggling; it aids in healing and moving forward. She believes in the uniqueness of each individual and tailors her approach based on your needs and goals. 

She currently works for Queen’s University as a counsellor for students. Thameena has a deep understanding of student experiences. Getting support throughout your education journey is a very important and integral part of your own growth and success. She has also spent extensive time working with women in many different capacities. She strives to empower women and support them in finding their own strength, wisdom, and voice as well as working through the many challenges we face as women in our society.

Thameena believes in planting seeds of kindness and compassion in every client she encounters, because when you learn to accept those qualities in your life, anything is possible. It is okay to build the life that you deserve. You are worth it.
